Window Shopping
Though reflections in storefront windows have long been fertile ground for photographers, it was the story that was being told in the windows of the big department stores along Market Street and Union Square in San Francisco that attracted me. It was 1977 and the city was still several years away from the devastation of the AIDS crisis. The scenes depicted in the windows and the way the mannequins were staged pushed traditional department store window convention presenting a bizarre contrast to the people on the street walking by.
