I bought my first single lens reflex 35 mm camera, a Canon FTb, in 1976. I received my first DSLR camera, a Nikon D80, in 2006, as a birthday gift from my wife. From black and white film and wet darkrooms to digital raw files and software-driven workflows, the images presented here showcase my photographic journey as a photographer; a journey that included a decades-long hiatus while my wife and I were raising our two children, and I was navigating the ups and downs of a high-tech marketing career with little time to satisfy my photographic muse.

I still ask myself what kind of photographer am I? What influences have shaped the way I approach photography and why? Why am I drawn to familiar themes that I recognize in the photographs I take whether they were taken 48-years ago or just two months ago?

A good photograph doesn’t just happen. I believe it’s the result of intentionality. A good photograph begins with the photographer pursuing an intentional point of view or perspective and then recognizing when it presents itself to them. And at the right moment…click. Without intentionality, the decisive moment, so brilliantly described by Henri Bresson all those years ago, would be lost, as our world rushes by at 30-frames a second.
